A Better Man

Matt 4:3 "The tempter came to him..."
These temptations remind us of the temptations Adam and Eve faced in the garden. When Adam was tempted by the devil in the garden he failed and brought sin to all human beings.  Where Adam failed, Jesus succeeds.  Where Adam brought death, Jesus brings life. Ro 5:19 “For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.” In order to be our savior and redeemer Jesus had to face the same temptations that Adam faced and that you and I face every day.  But where Adam failed and we fail, Jesus is triumphant.  As we proceed through Lent and we look toward the cross and Jesus’ great victory over death we start our journey in the wilderness where Jesus defeats sin.
Where am I in the wilderness?
Where am I being tempted today to betray my savior?
How does Jesus’ example encourage me?
Lord, Thank you that your Son was a better man than Adam.  Thank you that He was a better man than me.  Help me to face the tempter today and choose life.  Amen!

Old Tricks

Matt 4:3 “If you are the Son of God,” Sometimes I don’t think we’re very smart.  The devil keeps using the same old tricks and we keep falling for them.  The tempter is trying to get Jesus to question what God had said to him.  This is the same trick the serpent used on Eve in the garden.  Gen 3:1 “Did God really say…?”  The devil wants us to question God.  How can God love someone like me?  If God really loved me why would he let me go through…?  Where is God in the midst of all this?  I want to encourage you today as we go through Lent that God is faithful.  We can stand on his word and we can trust him.  Don’t allow the devil to steal your joy or convince you to doubt the love of your heavenly Father.  Let’s wise up and not continue to fall for the same old tricks.
What aspect of God do I doubt?
What aspects am I sure of?
What Scripture can I hold on to?
Lord, forgive me when I doubt you and your word.  Give me more faith and help me to walk in joyful obedience.  Strengthen me when I am weak.  Thank you for the truth of your word and that all your promises are yes in Christ and so we say amen to your glory. Amen!

Beginning a new web log

As we move more and more into the electronic age, we are able to communicate more effectively.  But we have to be willing to try new methods.  We have to creep out of our comfort zones of routine and the known, into a new adventure.  Let's try this blog thing and see how we like it.
