Matt 4:3 "The tempter came to him..."
These temptations remind us of the temptations Adam
and Eve faced in the garden. When Adam was tempted by the devil in the garden
he failed and brought sin to all human beings.
Where Adam failed, Jesus succeeds.
Where Adam brought death, Jesus brings life. Ro 5:19 “For just as
through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also
through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.” In order
to be our savior and redeemer Jesus had to face the same temptations that Adam
faced and that you and I face every day.
But where Adam failed and we fail, Jesus is triumphant. As we proceed through Lent and we look toward
the cross and Jesus’ great victory over death we start our journey in the
wilderness where Jesus defeats sin.
Where am I in the wilderness?
Where am I being tempted today to betray my savior?
How does Jesus’ example encourage me?
Lord, Thank you that
your Son was a better man than Adam.
Thank you that He was a better man than me. Help me to face the tempter today and choose
life. Amen!
