Empty Promises

"Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 'All this I will give you,' he said” (Matthew 4:8, 9 NIV) It appears that the devil has it within his ability to give these kingdoms and the world, but these are just shadows of God's true glory and riches. Jesus asked "What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?" (Matthew 16:26 NIV) First, there is nothing more important in this world than our relationship with God. Secondly, its questionable whether the devil had the power to deliver what he promised. He may be the Prince of this world but he's also a liar and the father of lies. The devil will promise you whatever he can to tempt you away from our God. Don't believe him for a second. He wants to leave you alone with a hand full of empty promises. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever. (1 John 2:17 NIV)
Is there anything in my life that looks or sounds good but is harming my relationship with my heavenly father?
What empty promises is the enemy of my soul trying to sell me? Am I listening?
Lord, forgive me for sometimes loving this world more than you. Thank you for reminding me that this world is not my home. Give me power to do your will. Amen.
