Obedience

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Let’s continue to look at Jesus’ reference to Deuteronomy and the manna.  In order to receive the manna in the wilderness the Israelites had to obey God.  God says in Exodus 16:4 “In this way I will test them and see whether they will follow my instructions.”  When Jesus says that man does not live by bread alone but every word that comes from the mouth of God he is saying it is more important to obey God than to have all the food in the world.  Following God’s commands will bring life while not following them brings death.  Remember, Adam and Eve chose to eat rather than obey.
In what area of my life am I not being obedient to God?
What is it I need to give up or do beginning this Lent to be obedient?
Lord, I want to choose life today.  I want to be obedient to you in everything I do.  Forgive me where I have failed you and help me to demonstrate my love for you through my obedience. Amen.
