Too Comfortable

Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. (Matthew 4:5 NIV)
Jesus started in the desert where he felt far from God. Satan tempted him to trust in himself rather than trusting in God. Now the tempter takes Jesus to the temple.  The temple is where God says He will dwell.  Satan takes Jesus to the place on earth where he can feel closest to his heavenly Father and still be tempted.  Sometimes it isn't when we feel God is far away that we are tempted but when we feel closest to Him.

How might the enemy tempt me even when I know that God is near?

Am I too comfortable?

Lord, help me to trust you always and not to let my guard down just because I am in your presence, but to keep myself open to you and your will. Amen.
