Matt 4:8,9 “Again, the devil took him to a
very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their
splendor. ‘All
this I will give you,’ he said, ‘if you will bow down and worship me.’” I
think its interesting that in this last temptation the devil does not start off
by saying “if you are the Son of God.” I wonder why that is. Is the devil now convinced that this is who Jesus
is because of how he responded to the first two temptations? Does the devil
just change tactics because it had not worked so far? Maybe he doesn’t want
Jesus to think about who he is as he tempts him to change allegiances. Sometimes the devil wants us to question our
relationship with God and sometimes he wants us to forget about it all
together. When we place our faith in
Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior we become sons and daughters of God. We enjoy a special relationship with God that
the devil hates. Don’t ever take that
relationship for granted or forget who you are in Christ.
When do I need to remember that I am a child of God?
What special privileges does my relationship afford me that
I can take advantage of as I face today?
Lord, thank you that I am your child and that
you have adopted me into your family.
Help me to see all that this means and to live as your child and be
pleasing to you. I love you! Amen.
