Matt 4:3 “…tell these stones to become
bread.” So why does the tempter
ask Jesus to turn the stones into bread?
Adam and Eve were told not to eat of the fruit, but Jesus wasn’t told
not to turn stones to bread. Jesus was being tempted to use his supernatural
powers for himself. The devil wanted him
to depend on himself rather than on God.
This is the same thing that happened with Abraham and Sarah. God had given them a promise but rather than
wait on the promise they decided to make it happen themselves; in their own strength,
by their own design. In the wilderness
Israel was hungry and God provided manna from heaven. But they couldn’t hoard
it. They had to collect it every day. They had to trust that God would provide for
them. So often we try to do things in
our own strength. It’s like we tell God,
“Don’t worry God I’ve got this one.” How’s that working out for you? We need to live our lives in faith and trust
that God is faithful and true, that He will provide everything we need. Lent is a season of preparation, of turning
to God. Won’t you trust God today to
provide your needs?
Where do I trust in my own strength to
accomplish something?
How is God calling me today to trust Him?
Lord,
forgive me when I think I have to do it all.
Help me to completely surrender all of my desires and goals to you. Give me more faith to trust you more and not
to depend on my own abilities. Amen.
