What's with the Food?

Matt 4:3 “…tell these stones to become bread.”
In the first temptation Adam and Eve were tempted by fruit and now Jesus is tempted to turn the stones into bread.  One of the things that struck my when we visited Israel was how rocky everything was.  There were stones everywhere.  Remember that Jesus was hungry.  It would have been well within Jesus’ ability to turn those stones into bread and satisfy his hunger.  The food represents our appetites or our flesh.  A common part of Lent is fasting and prayer.  We do this to deny our flesh; to deny our appetites and focus on God.  There is nothing wrong with food.  We need food to survive.  Far too often we are more concerned with satisfying our appetites than with our relationship with our heavenly Father.
Where am I being tempted to follow my flesh and satisfy myself rather than follow Jesus?
Is there something in my life that isn’t really “bad”, but I know it’s keeping me from having a closer relationship with Jesus?
Lord, Forgive me for being more concerned with satisfying myself rather than living for you.  Help me to put you first in every area of my life and surrender all of my desires to you. Amen!
